Dias<\/strong>toward Belo Horizonte until you reach the area <strong>around Lavras<\/strong>. From there, take the exit for the BR-265 and follow it straight toward S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o del-Rei and Tiradentes. The Fern\u00e3o Dias is a good highway, but it has quite a bit of truck traffic, so plan to leave early and try to avoid rush hours. The stretch from Lavras to Tiradentes is short, but the road is single-lane, which ends up feeling tiring. When we arrived in Tiradentes, a local told us that Lavras was \"the nearest far place that ever existed,\" and that phrase made total sense! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I visited Tiradentes, I included it as part of a <strong>10-day road trip through Minas Gerais<\/strong>Details <a href=\"https:\/\/avialacteablog.com\/en\/roteiro-minas-gerais-de-carro-10-dias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>in this post<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Quando_ir_a_Tiradentes\"><\/span>When to Go to Tiradentes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tiradentes is located at the foot of the <strong>Serra de S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9<\/strong>e, so the climate is typically mountainous, with air that is always fresher! Even on the hottest days, there is usually a gentle breeze at night. This makes the city closely associated with <strong>winter tourism<\/strong>Although it can be visited year-round, during the spring and summer months (between October and March), it rains more! Thus, the drier months are between April and September, with <strong>June, July, and August standing out.<\/strong>. The city has a special vibe and appeals to different types of crowds: there are options for history lovers, food enthusiasts, religious tourism seekers, and even those who just want to go and relax! Below, I've listed some interesting activities to make your trip extra special!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Caminhar_pelo_centro_historico\"><\/span>Stroll through the Historic Center<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tiradentes is super charming. With its old architecture and cobblestone streets, walking through the historic center makes you feel <strong>transported to another era<\/strong>! Plus, the little center is very compact... You can easily walk through the whole thing at a calm pace in about an hour, stopping to see the main sights. Like other Baroque churches, its simple exterior hides an elaborate interior filled with gold. Also, on Friday and Saturday nights, you can attend a sound-and-light concert featuring an <strong>18th-century pipe organ<\/strong>brought from Portugal. The city offers great culinary options ranging from sophisticated dishes to simpler meals. The hardest part is choosing just one restaurant among the many available. When I was there, I chose to dine at <strong>Angatu<\/strong>, an establishment specializing in <strong>contemporary Brazilian cuisine<\/strong>. The ambiance and service were great, and the food is wonderful, making the visit well worth it. The train ride takes about 45 minutes each way, and prices vary quite a bit. You can check them here. Right at the arrival train station is the <a href=\"https:\/\/appticket.com.br\/eventos\/estrada-de-ferro-oeste-de-minas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>here.<\/em><\/a>. Upon arrival, the train station houses the <strong>Railway Museum<\/strong>, which tells a bit of the history of Brazil's locomotives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I didn't take the steam train ride; I ended up driving to S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o del-Rei, so I can't share my personal experience with that specific ride. It is a larger, more developed city with more commerce and a university. While Tiradentes seems to live off tourism, S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o del-Rei is a city with a life of its own. It also has a historic center, but that is not its primary economic activity. Although the distance is short, the road conditions aren't great. The road has stretches of stones and dirt, so be prepared to drive very slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The little center is small, but I expected it to be even smaller! Aside from the main square, the fun part is stopping along the way to see other attractions. Consequently, this is also the area where prices are higher, especially during the high season. Furthermore, it also has parking, and the breakfast is delicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Quanto_tempo_ficar_em_Tiradentes\"><\/span>How Long to Stay in Tiradentes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If, besides Tiradentes, you also want to visit S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o del-Rei and Bichinho, I consider <strong>three days to be ideal<\/strong>: one day to explore Tiradentes, another for S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o del-Rei, and a third for Bichinho. I didn't have three days available and ended up doing the day trip to S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o del-Rei and the Bichinho tour on the same day, but I confess it felt rushed, and I would have enjoyed it more with one extra day.
